Narvik - The Battle for Norway Turns 1 - 7


Southern Norway with Denmark and its Aalborg Airfield at the bottom of the map.
The airfield will give the Axis player air superiority throughout the game
Turn 1: 9-11 April 1940 - The Start of the Invasion


Turn 1 - The Luftwaffe attacks Kristiansand
in southern Norway


Turn 1 - The Luftwaffe attack at Frederickstad at the entrance of
Oslo Fjord with overwhelming force


A Gladiator fighter squadron (3-F-3) counter-attacks the
Luftwaffe with limited success - one unit aborted


Kristiansand falls following an opposed amphibious assault
with the capital battleship Prince Eugen in support


Frederickstad submits to attack and German winterized
battalions are rebuilt after being broken down for the invasion


The Overview of Southern Norway with Axis forces firmly
established in the first turn, 9-11 April 1940
Turn 2: 12-15 April 1940 - Britain Aids Norway


A British night bomber is despatched to Oslo to help protect
city, although of no strategic importance in game terms


HMS Warspite and battleship group interdicts the strategically
important port of Trondheim, note also French cruiser top right


The Norwegians counter attack at Frederickstad and the
German winterized brigades suffer a retreat


Conversely, Axis forces expand their beachhead by
a breakout to the north and east of Kristiansand


The aircraft carrier Furious and the battleship group led
by HMS Valiant interdict the port of Bergen


British forces on the Shetland Islands includes infantry
battlions, landing craft and Blenheim long range fighter aircraft
Turn 3: 16-19 April 1940 - Narvik Comes Under Fire


Southern Norway as Axis forces extend their grip and
Frederickstad still under threat


Axis forces expand their bases at Kristiansand with the
arrival of 3rd Mountain Infantry
and 1-3 paratrooper units


An opposed amphibious attack on Narvik, repulsed with an
NE (No Effect) result on 1:1 ratio, though the 3rd Mountain
Infantry are some of the finest in the Axis Order of Battle


The first battle for Narvik, Prince Eugen and its flotilla of ships
were attacked unsuccessfully by roaming British aircraft on
their homeward journey in the waters off of Stavanger
Turn 4: 20-23 April 1940 - Breakout continues at Kristiansand


Winterized troops and the strong 3rd Mountain Infantry
breakout from Kristiansand and head for Oslo


Frederickstad, British forces buffer as Axis make a further
retreat, however, Axis forces will attack Oslo from the North

Trondheim also feels the benefit of the strong British
expeditionary force, newly arrived from the Shetlands
Turn 5: 24-27 April 1940 - Luftwaffe attacks Bergen - HMS Furious Sunk


The Luftwaffe attacks shipping at Bergan with heavy anti-aircraft
fire from British warships, Furious sunk and Valiant damaged

Oslo under pressure although not a strategic target for German
forces, Mobilization Point 6 overrun and 6-4's threaten capital


Reeling from the sinking of the aircraft carrier HMS Furious,
HMS Ark Royal is sent to replace it at Bergen


French troops occupy Andalsnes north of Bergen and are joined
by the British Navy's aircraft carrier HMS Glorious
Turn 6: 28 April - 1 May 1940 - Oslo and Bergen come under attack


Oslo, British units are disrupted along with units to the
North, German infantry out of supply to the South


Units of the Royal Navy at Bergen, including HMS Ark Royal
and Valient come under air attack but survive
Turn 7: 2 - 5 May 1940 - Narvik comes under attack again - Stavanger retaken by French


German forces land at Narvik supported by heavy cruisers
Prince Eugen, Gneisenau, Scharnhorst & Hipper


Polish forces land at Austvag, one of the outer islands
near Narvik to attack German forces from the rear


French Foreign Legion received as reinforcemnets open a
concerted attack at Stavanger on disrupted German forces


French retake Stavanger and disrupted German forces retreat
in the direction of Kristiansand, from whence they came!
